Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Travel on Lajitas’s ATI
Jets:
Whether you have never chartered a private aircraft or have been a frequent user of this service, the following information should be helpful. ATI (the management company) has agreed to provide Lajitas with the use of an aircraft with appropriate notice, so you may be transported to and from Lajitas, or for members, anywhere in the US, Canada, and Mexico. ATI has contractually agreed to inspect, service, repair, overhaul and test the Aircraft under FAA's established maintenance and preventive repair programs, as well as those established by the Aircraft’s manufacturer. They have agreed to keep the Aircraft in good operating condition and maintain FAA airworthiness certification.
Q:
Who may use the aircraft?
A: Resort guests may travel to and from Lajitas, The Ultimate Hideout. Lajitas Members and their guests may travel throughout the continental United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Q: Are
there any restrictions on where we can
fly?
A:
Yes. The plane may fly anywhere within the continental United States, Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. The runway length must also be at least 5,000 ft. Some destinations require longer runways. Flights anywhere outside the Continental United States have additional costs which are detailed and estimated in your flight quote.
Q: Will we
always have use of the same airplane?
A: You will not always have use of the same plane, if in the event your requested size of a Lajitas ATI Jet is not available, ATI has agreed to upgrade the jet to an equivalent plane that meets your travel needs at no additional cost. Use of these jets is subject to availability.
Q: How far
in advance do I need to make a reservation?
A:
It is best to make a reservation as far in advance as possible. With an exception of twelve (12), “peak days,” a plane can usually be available with 24 hours notice. For flights during the twelve “peak days,” a 72-hour notice is required. The “peak days” for 2005 are as follows; January 2nd, February 17th, 18th, & 21st, March 24th, & 25th, July 1st, November 22nd, 23rd, 27th, & 28th, and December 26th.
Q: Is there
a cancellation policy?
A:
Yes. There is a 48 hour cancellation policy that requires full payment of the estimated cost of the flight if you cancel the flight within 48 hours of your estimated departure time.
Q: Is
ground transportation available?
A: . We can arrange ground transportation at an additional charge.
Q: Is
catering provided?
A: Snacks and soft drinks are included in the flight cost. Additional meal service or specialty beverages may be arranged at an additional cost.
Q: What is
the minimum billing per aircraft?
A: The Lear Jet minimum billing is one hour plus sales tax. Each flight is charged six minutes for take-off and six minutes for landing. The cost for the airplane is the same regardless of the number of passengers.
Q: Are
there charges to have the airplane pick you up or drop you off at a
certain location?
A: In general, no, you are charged only for the flying time of the leg of the trip that you occupy, the “live” leg, which can be billed to your club or guest account. However, there is a ferry fee when you go outside of the Primary Service Area (PSA).
Q: What is
the PSA and can you explain how and when you would incur the
ferry fee?
A: The PSA, Primary Service Area, is a 500 mile radius around either Austin or El Paso whichever is more advantageous for the member. Within that radius, only the live leg is billed for. If the member travels outside the PSA, a ferry fee of $700 per hour is charged on the non-live leg to re-position the aircraft back to the PSA. No hourly minimum applies. For example, if it takes the pilot 6 minutes to reach the PSA, you would only be charged $70.00.
Q: Is there
any time when flying outside the PSA that you would not
pay a ferry fee?
A: Yes. If you are flying round trip to a destination for a short term on the ground such as a meeting or other event, you may find it more convenient to keep the plane on standby. There is no charge for the first two hours of standby and a $250 per hour charge thereafter. When planning your trip, we can help you determine if it would be less expensive to keep the plane on standby or to pay the ferry fee.
Q: What are
the baggage restrictions?
A:
FAA Regulations require that all golf clubs, skis, etc., be stored properly in the designated area (not to be set in the aisles). Some airports due to altitude or heat may have weight limitations. We recommend soft-sided luggage, travel-golf bags, and a limited number of pieces in order to maximize your space and comfort on-board.
Q: How many
pilots are there?
A: Each plane is operated by two FAA Certified pilots. All captains maintain a current FAA Airline Transport Pilot license and aircraft-type rating.
Q: What if
we need two airplanes?
A:
Generally this is not a problem. owever, the greater the advance notice, the greater the likelihood of availability.
Q: Will we
know the total air time and cost prior to take-off?
A: In most cases you will have a fairly accurate estimate, though weather can effect time and cost for any flight. A final billing will be provided after your flight.
Q: Is it
appropriate to give gratuities to the flight crew?
A: No, it
is not permitted.
Q: Can you
travel with pets?
A: Yes, if traveling within the United States. The pet needs to be on a leash aboard the airplane or in a pet carrier.
